Fathers Day Hamper #1
Fat Pig’s Dad’s Day Hamper is all about quality. Like a quality red wine, made just for us by Paul and Gilli Lipscombe. They’re the highly regarded winemakers at Sailor Seeks Horse, which is based just up the road from us in Cradoc. Sailor Seeks Pig is a benchmark cool climate pinot noir, with lean tannins and mouthwatering complexity.**
When he’s not taste testing the pinot, Rob, our cook has been working on his sweets, concocting a fabulous butterscotch sauce, then lacing it with moonshine. His Drunken Butterscotch Sauce is perfect with roasted bananas, damn good on ice-cream, and pretty bloody nice on a spoon. (If the kids aren’t watching, you can probably be sure dad will eat it off his fingers…). It’s finished with Tassie spirit, so best keep it away from the little ones.
Rob’s also made a hazelnut brittle, loaded with crisp, sweet Tassie hazelnuts. It’s something dad might share with those under 18. Then again, once he’s tried it, he probably won’t.
And finally, we’ve got the practical side covered in the pack, too. We’ve included a Fat Pig tea towel, which can double as a mask if you’re desperate, and a seemingly modest vegie scrubbing brush, which is improbably wonderful for cleaning your root vegetables. This is the kind of natural-bristled, indispensable brush we’d always wanted in the house, and took a long time to find. We now use them professionally in the restaurant, too.
